Maybe not the best name for a restaurant.
Yesterday I met S. In Nice, rue de suede and we went had a lunch at a Japanese / french fusion restaurant. They have a set menu and both of us had the pork, which was breaded , chopped and served on rice with wonderful spices. It's hard to describe, but it was very good. It was served with miso soup. For desert, we split a tiramisu with green tea filling....and we had hot saki. S. Does not really like Japanese as much as I do, but this looked like the best choice at the time. The food was excellent. We both agreed.

After, we went to see the new Cohen Brothers film, " Inside Lewlyn Davis" at the Rialto . It is the only theater I have been to hear. I need to branch out. This theater always has a VO ( voice original) showing. You get to see the French subtitles, which is interesting. Go see this film. I loved it's the cinematography was gorgeous. I love when the Cohen brothers shoot at night, in the rain....there were so many beautiful still life's in the film. Some of the songs were very beautiful, and it takes place in the east village in 1961. If you like cats, there is a cat story line.

After, we went to a cafe and had a glass of wine. The cafe is at a busy intersection and it's in a great place to people watch. S. And I, as well as the waitress and an older woman in a black long mink, watched a woman totter by in incredibly silly heels. It was obvious that she was in pain of some sort. She was intent on keeping up her fabulousness...no matter if she could barely walk. All of us women at the cafe looked on in horror and incredulity. We all looked at each other in agreement of how silly the woman looked.
We saw women with expensive plastic surgery. They look 22 from the back and they look 70 from the front, but all smoothed down in the face. What do men think of this, single men ? Do they like this look? I am at a loss to know. I think they do it for themselves, and probably most of them are married and all of there friends are doing it. If you had a group of friends that were getting treatments on their face and bodies, and you chose not to, would they hold it against you?would you be excluded from the group, subtly? I think so.

I don't think I would ever consider it. There are simple things, like Botox to certain spots on the face for wrinkles, but I would never do major or even minor surgery.
It's difficult to watch yourself grow old, but, do I want to attempt to look like a 22 year old again? No , and do I want to lull myself into thinking that my drastic face fix is not noticeable to anyone that looks at me. No to that too.
Don't they feel even more self conscious? Or do they think that the plastic surgery shows that they are taking very good care of themselves and therefore more fabulous, up to date, more relevant?
