Tonight

Of course, I can't sleep. I try reading , I try reversing my breathing ( an old trick someone taught me) breath in, stomach pushes out, breath out, stomach pulls in...now reverse it, I try walking around the streets of Rome in my mind, going from monument to monument to museum to church.....nothing works. I inch closer to my 4 am wake up time. ( I have 2 apple alarms set and I don't trust either of them.)
Do you remember when you were a child and not sleeping was not an option? I don't ever remember being plagued by an inability to sleep back then. These days, I sleep fairly well. I have had my periods of insomnia. I always have the ambien for that...my supply is dwindling.

When I was a child I had a stuffed animal by the name of Bob. He was a grey knitted wool sheep that was made by my great aunt, Sister Magdalene. I think I had this companion from birth. I used it to hold while I sucked my thumb for years and years until his neck got all stretched out. Until my mother forced me to stop.
I still have Bob. He's in the top of my closet here ( Bob made it to france!) Emile has been eyeing him for years. I always keep him just a little bit in sight as a tease. Emile would love to get ahold of Bob and shred him ...he makes me sleepy just thinking of him.
Good night...
