I recently had a client that was concerned with selected depth of field. She had a point when she said...Cancer patients are on all kinds of medication. If they are looking at photographs and they are out of focus and blurry, it makes them feel worse....I can understand this but I am not so sure that is the case. It has caused me to think.
I love this shot and there is a very narrow area in focus. Flowers, like people, are not perfect. When in sharp focus, a beautiful flower will show all of it's flaws...sunburn, insects, ( although, I don't mind bigger insects that have definitive shapes) water spots, etc...
blurs allow them to have their full beauty. In this image, if in focus, you would see all kinds of flaws. I don't mind flaws, but to me, my job is to make them their most beautiful between color and shapes. Does this read as a wet coneflower? It had poured in the night and all of my flowers ( in pots) were ready for their Elizabeth Taylor close up.
