Kate and I stopped in to see Monsieur Lambert at the Brocante. He was with his friend, Jacque-ey ( not sure how you spell the French Jacky) They poured me a big glass of Pastis ( the cheapest there is) with water and we talked in French for about an hour. I am told that in french there about 5 different words for the word dog. Each dialect has a different word. This is one of the reasons that French is so difficult to learn.
It's amusing to talk with these 2...M. Lambert ( who is older than J) speaks heavy and fast French. He is a talker. J can see that I might not be getting it so he gives it a try, explaining...but, I think he things either I can understand him or that he is speaking English. It's almost like he thinks he's translating for me. He has done this since I first came here. It is very sweet, but he is still speaking French and I am still not understanding some of the words.
(chiche, pingre, avare, ladre, maigre, rapiat = all mean stingy) etre avare
I drank about 2 sips of the Pastis and then M. Lambert spit my drink amongst the 2 of them. There were 2 men that were a little tipsy. But, they told me that my French has improved greatly, so I am happy about that.
Then 2 lizards appeared on the wall of the Brocante. They are wide and brown, not the usual ones that I see.
