The Gemäldegalerie is an art museum in Berlin, Germany, and the museum where the main selection of paintings belonging to the Berlin State Museums (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin) is displayed. It holds one of the world's leading collections of European paintings from the 13th to the 18th centuries. Its collection includes masterpieces from such artists as Albrecht DürerLucas CranachHans HolbeinRogier van der WeydenJan van EyckRaphaelTitianCaravaggioPeter Paul RubensRembrandtand Johannes Vermeer. It was first opened in 1830, and the current building was completed in 1998. It is located in theKulturforum museum district west of Potsdamer Platz.

This is a really wonderful collection. They have some beautiful flemish paintings including a few from my favorite Roger Van Der Wyden. They had a few Bellini's...oh, I won't name them all, but I will leave it, they have a great collection...and it is a very big place...room after room...This is the type of place I need to go alone as no one will go with me.

I should also say that I don't really like to take photos in museums, but I snapped a few here right before I left.
Side rooms to take a break in.

nice little doggie.

Botticelli

Botticelli's "Portrait of Giuliano de Medici".
A fascinating character . He was killed inThe Pazzi Chapel during an assignation attempt on both Giuliano and Lorenzo, his brother. Lorenzo was saved by friends, but Giuliano was stabbed and eventually died, very young.
