I pulled into this little town north of Sault to get something to eat and to get ou of the rain. I prefer the small town local places. This town was just a few streets with a church and a park. There were holly has growing everywhere, in every nook and cranny in the village.
I walked into this crowded restaurant and was warmly welcomed. I sat in the middle of the room at the only table. The menu was fixed...turkey ( dinde) or Plu Ma. I had to go out and look athe the chalkboard to see Plu Ma. She tried to tell tell me that it was an animal that started with a C NOT a horse. I think she was saying Pork or Boar...but, I ordered the Plu Ma.
As you can see in the picture it was a big fatty greasy mess. It was oddly served with eggplant that was cooked in the fat of whatever the meat was. The meat as pretty good but you had to separate it from the fat...and there was a lot of fat. In the end, I ate t and had no idea what it was.
For dessert, I had the chocolate gateaux , it was more like fudge floating in a. Vanilla soup.
The waitress was so nice. I asked her about all of the flowers , the holly hawks, what are they called inFrench...she had to ask and they came up with Rose Au Savage . To the french, all flowers are rose something...marigold is called rose of India.
As I was leaving a group of German bicyclists came to have lunch. They did not speak french and the waitress was trying to describe turkey and Plu Ma. I helped them out..they will have been very suprised to see the Plu Ma when it comes out.
J found Pluma...black Iberian pig...very tender, served on fat.
