Our Guide

When we arrived and parked, a man came up to us and asked us if we wanted a tour. He was Italian, but said he spoke French and some English. What we got for 20 euro was a conglomeration of Italian, French and English. We decided, Why Not! and we were off on the tour, It was only for an hour and he was very rushed. It was a very bizarre experience. I kept looking back at S. and she was just as bewildered as I was at many points. He knew what he was talking about. He quickly guided us through the arcades that hold the tombs. We had to get to the big church quick before it closed...we practically ran up the steps.
It's an amazing place. Even though we didn't understand much, it was a pleasure to spend the time with him. He kept clutching my arm and speaking passionately about the cemetery. He ended every other sentence with  No?
blah blah, blah, Mannerist, No? I must have said Si a hundred times. I needed to answer his No?.
He was great. He really had his Iconography down.
At the end, he told us that he wanted to be buried one place more than the other in this cemetary as he wants to eat seafood in the afterlife. NO?
Si! and Thank you!...He was off in 60 minutes,  looking for the next customer.
