Is gorgeous and such a cool place. I got here late, maybe 5 pm and it was overcast. The hotel is really nice...they sent me off in a direction , reviewed the trams procedure and from there, I found my way. I had a little map, but it was useless. I managed to get to the Central Station and took the canal boat ride. It gave mea an overview. I had some frites in a cone with mayonnaise and separately, a Heineken beer. I don't much like Heineken but it was pretty good.
I was determined to find the red light district and finally did. I pictured it a bit different in my mind. But for real, the girls are in phone booth sized windows in lingerie, very close to the glass. The city seems to be crowding this area out. There are nice restaurants and stores all mixed in with the window fronts.
I walked all over Amsterdam and finally, the sun came out. I took the tram to an area that the hotel mentioned and had sushi. Then I trimmed it back to the Hotel. I am exhausted, but I feel that I got a good grasp on Amsterdam. I want to come back and spend more time here. I have never seen so many bicycles, it's amazing. There are swans in the the canals. So many beautiful things.
Pictures to come.
