Shady Hike Today

I went in search of a local hike today that would be close, not crowded and perhaps swimming. I consulted the map and found a place, next to a cemetary. I didn't know that there would be a creek. You have your choice, uphill over dry, rocky slopes ( where you can see the sea), or into a valley with a creek. We tried both ways. Regrettabley, when we started into the woods on the creek trail, we found all kinds of junk, some disgusting that we had to get by. The trail was very slight. We followed it as far as you could walk. You can see what we found, a big swimming hole. It was very deep and went back quiet a ways. I am guessing that in the winter, when it rains, this whole area is flooded.
The dogs had a nice swim.
When we walked out of the woods, I ran into a man that was just getting into his car. He must have been in his 60's, wide, balding but with long hair in the back, big rings, driving a steel grey Mercedes sedan. He was a nice man, but I was leery none the less. We spoke in French. He asked about the dogs, wished me a good day. He stopped me again as I was pulling out and asked me where I was from. I told him that I was American...he was besides himself telling the that since he was a little boy, he has always loved America. He said all of this in French. He had his hands to his chest to show his sincerity. I did hear him say the name of that awful person that the we hunted down and killed. You know who I mean? A movie was made about it. That's the first time that anyone said anything to me about that.
