I always forget how treacherous they are. In France, there are many poma lifts and not just at the bottom for beginners, but at the top and take dog legs instead of going straight.

invented in 1936.
I remember skiing in Quebec as a kid and being off the ground the entire ride up the mountain ( I had issues with T-bars as well)
Of course, I almost fell. The poma's are so tight that you have to hold on as it whips you up the mountain. I flubbed it, but did not fall...however I took a sharp slam to my elbow...
Je detest!
I prefer the chairlift. I met a nice boy that was about 8, skiing on his own, Hungarian, but living in Brighton England. He wanted to chat ( I think he was a little afraid and was in need of a motherly type ( me?) ) He was very self assured for an 8 year old. It reminded me of me except for the beautiful english accent.
