Zook

All in one look...I Love you, I'm cold and I am very intense because I am the size of a supermarket chicken.

cute teeth!

A lovely Dinner at The Cow Club.

It was so cold!!! about 0 degrees Fahrenheit. We decided to try The Cow Club.

We decided to have The Reblochonnade cheese with a charcuterie and beef to grill. The service was iffy but the food was great and we had a great time.

A bottle of white wine was consumed.

Gendarmerie on The Slopes

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gendarmerie
This is unusual to me. There were Gendarme on skis patrolling the slopes. In the US , it is Ski Patrol . I don't think any police patrol slopes in the US. S chatted up one while we were in line for the POMA...he had flowers on his ski pole basket. He told F.that he wished it had a cork and could hold wine...huh?

A Little Break.

S off trail.

Let me be clear...S. anmd I have skied the same amount of time. We started as children, but he is a MUCh better skier than me. He has much less fear than me.
I thought about this a lot and I think I am happy to just have the ski experience, the view, the feeling of flying, the cold, the beauty.
I no longer need the danger, the steeps, the speed. I am happy to just be skiing but I am careful.
Are you coming? ( no!)  OK, meet me on the other side.

The Conditions

Hard Packed with a little powder and a little ice...Vermont skiing! It was very grey and hard to see detail on the slope for me. Not too cold.

Us!

Happy!

View from The top

No words needed,

The POMA lift!

I always forget how treacherous they are. In France, there are many poma lifts and not just at the bottom for beginners, but at the top and take dog legs instead of going straight.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poma
invented in 1936.
I remember skiing in Quebec as a kid and being off the ground the entire ride up the mountain ( I had issues with T-bars as well)
Of course, I almost fell. The poma's are so tight that you have to hold on as it whips you up the mountain. I flubbed it, but did not fall...however I took a sharp slam to my elbow...
Je detest!

I prefer the chairlift. I met a nice boy that was about 8, skiing on his own, Hungarian, but living in Brighton England. He wanted to chat ( I think he was a little afraid and was in need of a motherly type ( me?) ) He was very self assured for an 8 year old. It reminded me of me except for the beautiful english accent.

The Beauty on The Slopes

Beautiful Parc Mercantour.

To Isola with S and Zook

Tuesday morning, I met S and we drove to Isola in Mercantour Parc. It's very close to Nice, up a very dangerous and winding road. 90 k from Nice! and close to Italy. $37 US per day. Medium risk of avalanche.

Late Afternoon Walk in Chateuneuf

On this map, see the # 2. This is right over the hill from S's house. You drive up a tiny one lane goat trail through olive trees to get to this populated place. It was packed with people, kids, dogs, so we decided to go on another hill and sat in the sun for awhile. It was a little cold but beautiful in the sun.

The abandoned village on top.
