For years (!!!) I have been trying to get into The Domus Aurea....Nero's Golden Palace. They are opening it on weekends. During the week, the archeologists are working on it, so you can only see it on the weekends. I found the tour to get in...you can only go with a tour and it's 75 minutes long. Hard hats required.

The wall at the end is where this entrance begins. |

this is a nympheum ...it would have been a pool with statues and fountains. It was across from a large garden so the light flowed into it. |

a fresco that remains on the ceiling. |

frescoes on the 2nd floor. Where you see the big holes are where beams for the 2nd floor. |

A long frescoed corridor. light comes in from windows on the top left and flows into the windows on the right and into the next rooms. |

They are concentrating on shoring the structure up and then will get to cleaning and restoring the frescoes, wall paitings..all in the 4th Pompeian Stye. |
