I drove for about 2 hours to get to Aix-en-Provence through some beautiful landscape. I drove on the outskirts of Hyeres, under the city of Toulon in a long tunnel and turned north just before I got to Marseille. I was a little tired of driving so I didn't stop and went straight to Aix. I saw some really beautiful mountains and forests with very different landscape. Perhaps another time.
I arrived in Aix at about 6pm. It was very crowded. I didn't know what to expect. I could not find the hotel that I was staying in. I drove around and around. I didn't even think of using the GPS but with one more pass through, I happened upon the sign.
It was on a one way street. I was able to double park in front and run in to check in and see how to handle parking my car. The receptionist had to come out and stop traffic for me to back up to get into the garage. Once the car was in there, there was no getting it out till the next day as it was a tiny space jammed with cars parked each behind each other.
I was exhausted and decided to sleep...big mistake. The room that I was in was like sleeping in a water closet. Any water usage from above caused water to come racing loudly down the walls. I think I fell asleep around 12 after everyone else finished with their water consumption for the night.
I left early as I had to get to Avignon by 12.
