Picard

I have heard about this store from a few people but I have not been in one yet. Everything is frozen. Cryrogenics. My parking garage just happened to be across the street from one so I wandered in. It was cold and serious. I don't know how I feel about this. I had pictured it as a fabulous store like Dean and De Luca until I found out that it was frozen only...and then I didn't know what to think...but now I do.

  1. When I first started spending time in France, I was on a mission to find frozen fruit for my smoothies. Couldn't find it anywhere, no matter how big the supermarket. Figured it must be a cultural thing. Then I discovered "chez Picard"".

Someone explained to me that the freezer cases are too big and take up too much room (not to mention electricity) so most supermarkets only have a small freezer with the basics -frozen quiche, frozen pizza and ice cream.

But chez Picard has frozen EVERYTHING ... and it's very good quality. Especially the fruits, veggies and fish. And their pre-made meals. I love the bacon-wrapped prunes and fromage tartes.

When I first saw those stores - and walked by - I thought they were surgical supply stores. The blue and white logo looks so "medicinal". It's funny when you look in the windows - you can't see anything because the freezers are all waist high From outside, the store looks empty.

    Love, love chez Picard.
