It's a beautifully sunny day today...a nice way to start on Monday.
This weekend I took a different approach. I found many things to do and it has helped my mood tremendously, but, I will need to keep it up.
Last night I went to a local Internet group event at a fun bar in the old town of Nice. It is a great, classic place. The waiter that we had was loud and obnoxious and fun. He's hard to describe but he basically was running the place. It was packed with people.
The group I met was a mix of French, British and Italians....all ages. The man that runs the group is a Brit in this 60's and very annoying. I didn't realize that we were supposed to only speak French and he was holding to that. He was one of those...one slow word at a time, with a cockney accent...painful. He would speak to me like that and I just switched to English. I couldn't stand hearing him. I suppose that was very intolerant of me, but not only does he live in Nice so is surrounded by French all the time, but has been here for many years. It seems all he does is go to and arrange social events. I told him that we are bound to disagree on everything and he agreed....grating.
There were 2 women that I really liked, one is Italian and the other is just kind of nutty, French. She is learning English and won't let anything pass without insisting on understanding.
There were many people in the group, maybe 15 or so but you were stuck in a narrow place at a small table with no way to mingle. The place was called Distilleries Ideales. I'm sure it has an interesting history, but I can't seem to find it.
It was good to get out and meet some new people and speak French. I did find out that there is a crypt under Place Garabaldi in Nice ( reservations required)...and I will go to the archaeological Museum too.
It was great to get into Nice on A Sunday evening to meet with people. When I left it was raining. It was so beautiful in the old town in the rain. Beautiful colored light was bouncing off the wet pavement. Around every corner there was something interesting. I will go back and shoot more. I used the wrong setting on my camera ( auto) so I didn't get the color bleed and the blurs that I like in the rain.
